Telecom Certificate Course

Course Description

M2M Telecommunication classes will be held on Saturdays from 9am -1pm at the Kentland Community Center, 2411 Pinebrook Avenue in Landover, MD.  Students are expected to arrive a minimum of 10 minutes prior to each class.  Students are also encouraged to bring a lunch and snack for break times.

The Mentoring to Manhood Telecom Certification is an initiative designed to offer recent high school graduates an opportunity to learn a marketable skill ultimately culminating in employment.  The M2M Telecom Certification will prepare young men for certification with the Electronic Technicians Association as a Certified Data Cabling Installer (DCI).  Upon completion of the six-week training course, student will be given the opportunity to test for two certifications.

Certification 1: Certified Data Cabling Installer (DCI)

Certification 2: OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Card

Course Objectives

  • Understand Safety & Basic Electricity
  • Understand Data Communications Basics
  • Basic Network Architecture and Cable Construction
  • Understand National Electrical Code (NEC) Requirements
  • Understand Connector Installation and Troubleshooting
  • Understand OSHA purpose
  • Discuss employer responsibilities under OSHA
  • Explain how OSHA inspections are conducted
  • Utilize helpful worker safety and health resources
Instructor

Richard Nightengale, Certified Data Cabling Installer, entrepreneur and business owner has over 40 years of continuous employment in the cabling industry.  With certifications from ETA, AT&T, NEC, OSHA, Professor Nightengale also served as associate adjunct instructor at Anne Arundel Community College with telecommunications and fiber optics.

Guest speakers will also be included as course instructors
