MISSION:
Community Youth Advance transforms out-of-school (OST) time to help our youth thrive. Our OST programs fill existing gaps in local school communities and help our youth find pathways forward. We harness the power of community to help economically disadvantaged youth excel and achieve more in school and life.
CYA Saturday School and Newton’s Thinkers After-school Program Overview:
Knowing our students and from which communities they come helps in understanding the make-up of our program and the student population it serves. In 2018-19, CYA served 439 PGCPS students – 174 Saturday School students and 239 Newton’s Thinkers students. FARM students account for 77.5% of students.

Students who regularly attend CYA Saturday School and Newton’s Thinkers benefit from programming and improve academic outcomes.
OUR ACADEMIC IMPACT
Community Youth Advance requires scholars to submit quarterly progress reports and report cards. Students’ grades show the most improvement in reading and math between 2nd and 3rd quarters when CYA Saturday School and after-school programs delivered the most sessions.
Highlights of Sixth Grade Growth
• 100% of sixth graders who attended the program at least 80% of the time increased their day school math grade by one letter grade or more.
• 86% of sixth graders who attended the program at least 80% of the time increased their day school reading grade by one letter grade or more.
Highlight of Third Grade Growth
• 64% of third graders who attended the program at least 80% of the time increased their reading AND math score by one letter grade or more.
All CYA programs administer a CCSS aligned pre and posttest to track student achievement. The2018-19 data summary shows all students who attended at least 80% of the time made significant gains of over 100% with the exception of first grade who made a 24% increase.
