Senior Leadership Academy
The Senior Leadership Academy (SLA), meticulously crafted to empower high school students from 9th to 12th grades as they journey towards graduation and beyond. This holistic after-school and summer initiative seamlessly blends academic reinforcement with leadership and workforce development opportunities, ensuring students are well-prepared for the challenges of college and future careers.
Under the guidance of certified educators, industry experts, mentors, and a host of community partners, the SLA provides students and families with comprehensive support in a nurturing environment beyond regular school hours. Academic modules are carefully curated to address specific student needs, closely aligning with both Common Core State Standards, College and Career Readiness, and the Prince George’s County curriculum framework. Through this tailored approach, the program not only boosts students’ readiness for higher education but also equips them with the skills needed to excel in their chosen professions.
In partnership with the Bladensburg High School community and collaborators, CYA endeavors to support a total of 75 students through the SLA after-school and summer programs. This initiative is tailored to address the needs of specific student groups within the 9th – 12th-grade school community, including 9th and 10th-grade repeaters, 11th and 12th-grade students eligible for early release, and others at risk of non-promotion. Primarily targeting students from low-income households who have fallen below state achievement standards, nominations for participation are sourced from educators, counselors, principals, and community members.
