We are continuing to grow and strengthen our infrastructure even during these trying times, and that means adding NEW MEMBERS to our amazing Board of Directors.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Jeron Davis and Sterling Owens to our board!
Smith School of Business. As an undergraduate, he was active both on and outside of campus. Mr. Davis was the starting 175lb boxer for the University of Maryland Competitive Boxing Team, where he placed 2nd at the National Championships. He also participated in a philanthropic giving circle which donated $10k to fight against sex- trafficking, the Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) Career Preparation Fellow Program, the Big Brother Big Sister program, and was the founding president of the Maryland Investment Banking Society.
After undergrad, Jeron began his career on Wall Street, working as an Investment Banker at Citigroup where he functioned on high-profile deals such as the $4.6 billion Leveraged Buyout (LBO) of Petco. After his time at Citigroup, he successfully ventured into private equity in which he currently works at RLJ Equity Partners as a private equity investor. At RLJ, he handles various portfolio companies such as Pro-Vac, Naylor, and ERC, helping to invest over $200 million in capital commitments.
Sterling Owens is the Sr. Director of Sales Support & Large Sales Project Management at Sodexo in Gaithersburg, MD. He has served in Director roles since 2008, providing planning, strategy and leadership in the areas of sales development and business growth. Sterling is a seasoned leader with a proven track record of providing guidance and direction for complex functions that align and develop organizations to support growth. This includes being the strategic point person for developing and overseeing sales initiatives to penetrate markets and increase business
development.
Sterling is an analytical thinker with expertise in sales transformation and strategies. He brings a solid history of creating and optimizing sales processes and establishing lead generation and qualification to develop strong pipelines of opportunities.
Sterling is also an active mentor in our Mentoring to Manhood program. He and his Mentee Jonathan, a CYA Summer Intern, were featured in a MentorPrize PSA about the value of mentoring relationships and were recipients of the Mentoring to Manhood Mentor and Mentee of the Year award.
We are honored and excited to have Jeron and Sterling join our Board and we look forward to expanding our opportunities to Teach, Reach and Keep youth on the path to success.
